Employment Agreement for Associate Attorneys

Law firms made up of more people are usually structured in a hierarchy. Partners are at the top, and Associate Attorneys are below them. Associates work for the company while Partners are the owners. Associates often have the chance to climb the ladder and become Partners. Associates also get to share in the profits of a firm, rather than just getting wages – more bonuses!

A written agreement between Associates and the Firm is essential. It outlines everyone’s obligations and explains the conditions under which they can advance. This is a draft contract between Associate and law firm. It can be modified to suit the needs of law firm hiring Associate attorney.

This Agreement was made on the 21st of March 2011, between the Law Offices at Smith, hereinafter referred as the “Firm”, and Joe Blow.

Recitals

The Firm is a Sole Proprietorship that operates as a legal service business. This contract will remain in force if the Firm is reorganized under another business entity during the term.

The State of Texas has granted the Attorney a license to practice law.

The Attorney and the Firm want the attorney to practice law as an employee.

It is reached as follows by the parties:

Employment. The Attorney is employed by the Firm and accepted employment as an attorney according to the terms of the Agreement.
